George Stephen Sellers

DURHAM Mr. George Stephen Sellers, 68, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 in Durham. He was born on January 31, 1944 in Wilmington to George Grover Sellers and Annie Mae Savage Sellers. He was the youngest of the three children in his family. The family moved to Cherry Point, NC for a short time. Before Steve started elementary school, the family moved to Durham. He attended school a few blocks away from their home. He also attended East Durham Junior High School and Durham High School.Steve enjoyed singing in his church’s ward choir as a teenager. And he has always loved listening to music. He also enjoyed going to dances with his sisters when the Fort Bragg military boys came to Durham. The family summer trips to Wrightsville Beach, and later to the North Carolina mountains brought him great pleasure.Steve completed a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Los Angeles, California Mission. He worked for the Durham City Schools where he made many dear friends among the teachers and principals of the district. Steve loved working with ceramics. Many were made and given to family and friends, and were also displayed in the home. Steve was loved by many and he “loved, loved” them all.He is survived by his sisters, Katherine Elizabeth (Betsy) Sellers Walker and husband, Phil of Antioch, California, and Carol Sellers Herbert and husband, Jim of Fillmore, California, and a large number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bishop Jeff Veach. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
