Georgia Nash Harris (92) went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 1, 2023 at Bethesda Family Care Home in Clayton, N.C. Daughter of the late Lennox and Malvine Nash, she was born on January 7, 1930 in Durham, NC. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, her “first and only love” of fifty years, David A Harris along with a son, Len Harris and a brother, H. L. Nash.
Georgia was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served as Chairperson for the Benevolence Committee. A caregiver by nature, she cared not only for her family and friends but extended her gift into the community by volunteering at John Umstead Hospital and the Murdoch Center in Butner.
Georgia loved the outdoors, where she enjoyed walks through the woods with her grandchildren and taught them about nature. She spent many hours working in her garden and yard and caught more fish than the men with whom she fished.
After being diagnosed with dementia, she moved from her home to Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Kill Devil Hills, NC from 2012 to 2017. In 2017 she moved to Fairfax Hills Senior Living, where she was given love and excellent care from Lydia Becoat and her staff. Georgia then moved to Bethesda Family Care Home and continued to receive wonderful care by Patricia Nwbodo and her staff.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hudson (Jimmy) of Durham, NC; her son, Tony Harris (Andy) of Pensacola, FL; daughter, Pam Rasmussen (Leif) of Cedar Point, NC; brothers, Dwight Nash and Chris Nash. Affectionately called G. G., she was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren, Greg Harris, Mandy Chavis, Courtney Williams, Paige Goss, Erin Rasmussen, Dave Harris, Randi Efland, Ben Harris, Marcy Holt, and Sunny Harris; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bracy Chavis, great grandson, Rich Chavis, Andy Goss, Matt Williams, Brian Efland, and Jay Holt all grandsons-in-law.
Visitation will be held at Durham Memorial Baptist Church on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service following at noon. Officiating will be Pastor Rob Stone. Burial will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens directly after the service.
