Gladys Lee Oakley McGhee

Wake Co. Gladys Oakley McGhee, 99, of Raleigh died on Sunday, August 21, 2016. She was born in Durham, NC to the late Melvin C. Oakley and May Bud J. Oakley Davis. Gladys worked on farms, in a hosiery mill, and at Jeff’s Restaurant before she retired. She helped raise seven step-children and four of her own. She loved to cook and garden.
Gladys is survived by one son, David M. Walker and wife Anne, one stepson, Emmitt F. McGhee and wife Doris, three daughters, Mamie W. McGhee, Virginia W. Taylor and husband Doug , Deborah M. Williams and husband Tom; one sister, Carolyn D. Franklin; seven grandchildren, Denise W. Barta and husband Rick, Pamela T. Seekins and husband Mike, Rickey N. McGhee and wife YuLong, Rhonda G. McGhee, Christy W. Cochran and husband Stephen, Sherra T. Berndt, C. Jason Williams and wife Susan; five step-grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren an unknown number of step-great and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, David Walker, Elvis McGhee and R.L. McGhee; two brothers, Jessie Oakley and John Davis; one sister Lettie O. Williams-Faison; six step-children, Julian, Excell and Billy Walker, E.L., Richard and Elizabeth McGhee, one great-grandson, Darrell McGhee, two step-grandsons, Lewis and Richard Blake.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Dr. Devon Blanton will officiate. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be, Ricky McGhee, Jason Williams, James Kelly, Matthew McGhee, Stephen Cochran and Dylan Seekins. Honorary pallbearers will be, Mickey Barbee, Brandon Cochran and D.J. McGhee.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home in Durham. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
