Gloria Grossman Preminger

Gloria Grossman Preminger passed away January 27, 2018 at Carolina Meadows (Chapel Hill, NC) from natural causes, Gloria was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1927. She was a graduate of New Jersey College for Women (Rutgers University). She also studied dance at Connecticut College with the José Limón Dance Company.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Leonard Preminger, her parents David and Sala Grossman, and her son-in-law George Emont. She is survived by her three children, Glenn Preminger (Jodi Preminger, Chapel Hill, NC), Amy Artman (Ira Artman, of Metuchen, NJ), and Jill Preminger (Louisville, KY), and six grandchildren, Seth Preminger (Tracy Lyons, Chicago), Sally Preminger (Chicago), Margo Emont (Boston), Jacob Emont (Washington DC), Daniel Artman (Yardville, NJ) and Josh Artman (Boston College).
Gloria was a beautiful woman, in her manner, kindness, and appearance. She was extremely gifted with an interest in the arts, and national and international affairs. She was a devoted wife, a loving and patient mother and grandmother, and a tireless volunteer. She was also a wonderful cook and her family believes that she cooked the best rugelach in all of North Carolina.
While raising her family in New Jersey, Gloria worked in administrative positions. After Gloria and Lenny retired to North Carolina, she started her “career” as a professional volunteer. In 2009, she received the North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from Governor Bev Purdue, for her work at Chatham County Habitat for Humanity and Hospice Care for Chatham County. Gloria’s passions included dance, theatre, visual arts and learning. Until recently, she was an avid student in the Lifelong Learning Institute at Duke University and a daily reader of the New York Times.
Funeral services will be at Sunday, February 4th at 1:30 pm at Judea Reform Congregation Synagogue, 1933 W. Cornwallis Road, Durham, NC 27705. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gloria’s name can be directed to Chatham County Habitat for Humanity, Saturday Morning Shabbat Luncheon Sponsorship at Judea Reform Congregation, or the Carolina Meadows employee fund. Gloria’s family wishes to thank the devoted staff and caregivers at the Pines of Carolina Meadows.
