Goldie Aiken Collins

DURHAM Mrs. Goldie Mae Aiken Collins, longtime Durham resident, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

Mrs. Collins was born in Wake County to the late Melvin D. Aiken and Lizzie Keith Aiken.  She retired from IBM Corporation in 1991. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.  Goldie enjoyed gardening, traveling, Duke basketball, races with Jeff Gordon, and most of all she loved her family.  She was known for her loving and giving spirit.  Her close friends and family always knew there was room around her kitchen table to sit, talk, and “stay a while.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Lee Collins; brothers Worth Aiken, Melvin Flinton(Dick) Aiken, Sr. and William Norris Aiken; and a sister Annie Bell Aiken Clark.

She is survived by her son, Richard A. Collins of Durham; daughters Patsy L. Collins Duke (Charles) and Laura A. Collins Latta (Blane) both of Durham; special nephew James Aiken, Jr. of Alabama; brother James (Jimmy) Aiken, Jr. (Joyce) of Alabama; sisters Pat Neal of Durham, Betty Norwood of Wake Forest, and Mary Nell Whitman (Gordon) of Indiana; sister-in-law, June Aiken; grandchildren Kim Pearson (Luke), Heather Duke (Shaun), Amy Hester (Chris), Ernie Latta (Misty) and Erin Latta; honorary grandchildren Wesley, Jessica, and Kaitlyn Aiken; great-grandchildren Blake and Riley Hudson, Harper Mae Jackson, Blane, Hayden, Gage, Declan and Kale Latta, Mackenzie Rhodes and Cameron Latta.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 pm at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor David Trump and Rev. Johnny Hewett. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ernie Latta, Barry Norwood, Maynard Clark, Wesley Aiken, Ronnie Aiken, Luke Pearson, James Aiken and Bobby Dixon.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Laura Latta, 2725 Beck Road. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
