Gordon Douglas Bivins

BUTNER- Gordon Douglas Bivins, 68, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019.

Mr. Bivins was born May 1, 1950 to the late Grover Gordon and Frances Mincey Bivins in Durham County. He retired from Home Plate Restaurant in Durham and Butner, NC. He will be remembered as a loving brother, father, and grandfather.

Mr. Bivins is survived by his son, Brian Bivins (Cheryl) of Bahama, NC; daughter, Paige Markham (Jason) of Durham, NC; sister, Patricia Bivins Adams of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchildren; Matthew Bivins, Jacob Markham, and Hallie Markham.

Mr. Bivins graduated from Durham High School in 1968. After graduation, he pursued a career as a meat cutter. He became a market manager with Winn-Dixie Food Store and then became a meat supervisor with Food Lion with a territory of the Triangle and surrounding area.

In 1983 he left Food Lion to pursue a career in real estate. In addition to being a real estate broker, he was a general contractor and operated Bivins Construction Co. In 1995, he decided to return to the food business and started Home Plate Restaurant with his family. He retired in 2012.
