Mrs. Helen Veasey “Polly” Colton, 87, of Burlington, passed away at her home, Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
Mrs. Colton was born September 26, 1934, in Durham, NC to Jarvis and Myrtle Rigsbee Veasey. Polly graduated with honors from Bragtown High School. After high school she worked for Home Security Life Insurance Company in Durham for about 5 years. She later joined Exxon Corporation in New Jersey as a Tanker Accountant where she worked for 28 years prior to retiring. She also was an Assistant Judge at the Bethesda voting precinct for several years. Polly was a member of Page Road Baptist Church in the Bethesda Community for many years before relocating to Burlington, NC. She also attended Immaculata Conception Catholic Church in Durham. They also supported the Catholic church. She was very active in volunteering her community, serving as a reading tutor at Bethesda Elementary School, the Jaycees while living in New Jersey and the Bethesda Ruritan Ladies Auxiliary. Polly received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award during the George Bush administration. She will be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, daughter, sister and aunt.
In addition to her parents, Polly is preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Robert Denny.
Polly is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Colton, Jr.; sister Cora Veasey Green and husband Warren; several nieces and nephews.
No visitation will be held but friends may visit and pay respects at Hudson Funeral Home Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 22, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
