DURHAM Mrs. Hilda Bobbitt Stallings, 99, a former resident of Durham, died on Sunday, July 31, 2016.Mrs. Stallings was born on July 10, 1917, a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late James Duke Bobbitt, Sr. and Lucy Walker Bobbitt. She was a 1935 graduate of Bethesda High School. She retired in 1976 from the Durham County School as a teacher’s assistant. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, member of the Juanita Stallings Sunday School class and taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Stallings was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Maynard C. Stallings; sisters, Margie B. Ellis, Maxine B. Lawrence, Lucille B. Williams and brothers, Curtis Bobbitt and JD Bobbitt, Jr. She was the last surviving member of her family.She is survived by her son, Kenneth Stallings and wife, Teresa of Wake Forest; daughter, Judith S. Burgess and husband, Preston of Durham; grandchildren, Kirk Stallings and wife, Diane and Kendra Stallings McLamb and husband, George; great-granddaughter, Reagan McLamb.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Hugh O’Shields and Mr. Norman Stallings will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
