GRIFFINDURHAM Mrs. Hilma Pierce Griffin, 96, of Durham, died on Thursday, January 19, 2012.Mrs. Griffin was born in Iredell County on June 10, 1915. She taught school in Chatham County for five years and Durham City Schools for 15 years before becoming Librarian for the Durham City Schools for 20 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Friendly Womens Bible Class. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Ruth Griffin Weaver.She is survived by her husband of 69 years, William “Lacy” Griffin; granddaughter, Sonya Culley and 3 great-grandchildren, Kaylee Stepto, Lexie Stepto and Lilly Stepto; sister-in-law, Ruby Pierce of Harmony; two nieces, Kyle Church and husband, Gordon of Atlanta and Linda Leonard and husband, Wade of Mocksville.Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Mark D. Stephens and Rev. Steven Murphy. Interment will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Chatham Church Cemetery on Chatham Church Road in Pittsboro N. C. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at St. Paul UMC Fellowship Hall, 2700 N. Roxboro Street and other times at the home.
