DURHAM- Inez Garard died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Carolina Point Nursing Home in Durham where she lived since September of last year. Her death followed a short period of declining health after a wonderful and healthy life of 93 years. Inez was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds. She lived 22 years in Richmond, Indiana where she raised her three children, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed an active social life of playing golf and bridge. She was an avid reader and daily challenged the crossword puzzles. Mrs. Garard moved to Florida in 1967 where she worked with her husband, Dave, in the golf course construction and management business. She moved to Chapel Hill in 1994 to enjoy being closer to grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always competitive and enjoying sports, Inez loved to play cards and board games and would often be found watching local college basketball or the weekly PGA tournament.Mrs. Garard is survived by 2 sons, Bob; and Dick (wife) Maret; four grandchildren, Wade, Tara, Jenny and Katie; and 8 great-grandchildren. Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, David Garard, their daughter Joanne and on grandson, Michael. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 25th at Hudson Funeral Chapel, located at 211 S. Miami Blvd. in Durham. Rev. Andy Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends at Hudson Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. preceding the memorial.
