Jack Dempsey Rogers, 103, of Durham passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Croasdaile Village.
Jack was born March 10, 1920, in Durham to the late Robert Connie and Melissa Gaynus Rogers. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Juanita Ricks Rogers; sisters, Katherine Boyer, Vila “Billie” Mayhew, Katie Swaim, and Dorothy Bishop; brothers William “Buddy” Rogers and Henry Rogers.
Mr. Rogers retired from the Traffic Engineering Department for the City of Durham in 1982 after working for 25 years. In addition to farming, he also owned and operated Jack’s Line Striping and helped several others start their own businesses as a result.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Billie Rogers Bordeaux of Durham and son, Jerry Wayne Rogers (Donna Holt) also of Durham. Five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Duke Regional Hospital, Croasdaile Village, and Transitions LifeCare for their compassion, care, and support of Jack and the family.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Home. The service will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Home and entombment at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Dr. Myron Yandle, grandson-in-law will officiate. Pallbearers: Nick Bitting, Jack Bordeaux, John Carlisle, Mike Pope, Josh Reid, and Chase Yandle.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations can be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
