DURHAM Mr. Jack Shelton Warren, Sr., 90, of 518 Latta Road, died on Thursday, May 6, 2010. Mr. Warren was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Lonnie Earl Warren and Hattie Bertha Miles Warren. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945. Until retiring he owned and operated the Guess Road Amoco from 1968 to 1985. He was of the Methodist faith but was loved by Lowes Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting with his birddogs and fishing. He loved his grandchildren and his grand-dog “Queenie”. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Gail Warren.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Kelly Warren; two sons, Jack S. Warren, Jr. and Judy, of Leasburg and Mark Trent Warren and wife Jane of Wilmington; one daughter, Debra W. Areford and husband, “Skip” of Durham; brother, Robert Earl Warren and wife, Joan of Wilmington and grandchildren, Kevin Warren, Michael Ladd, Shelby Ladd, Ella Warren and Hattie Warren.A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Forest Gale. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Jack’s memory to the Durham Rescue Mission, PO Box 11858, Durham, NC 27703.The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Treyburn HealthCare Facility in Durham for the loving care they gave Jack. In the 19 months he resided at Treyburn, everyone provided genuine love and comfort during his illness.
