Jacqueline McCorkle Lee

Jacqueline “Jackie” Faye McCorkle Lee, (92) of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Carver Rehabilitation & Living Center.  A lifetime resident of Durham, she was born March 5, 1931 to Roy and Elizabeth McCorkle. 

Jackie attended Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Durham, where she served as pianist until her mid-80’s. She loved to attend church and served in many different roles throughout the years, including singing in the choir and in many different groups.   Before her retirement in 1996, she was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, where she was affectionately preferred to as "Payroll Jackie."

Mom and dad married December 21, 1948, while she was a senior in high school, before dad left for the US Air Force. They would have celebrated 75 years of marriage in just 3 weeks.

Jackie is survived by husband, Thomas E. Lee, daughters Kathy (David) Weatherspoon, Cynthia (Thomas) Mitchell, and sons Rev. Michael (Shannon) Lee and Timothy Lee; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchilden and 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters Gail Parton and Paula Dollar; brother Gary McCorkle and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rev. William McCorkle and Robert McCorkle.

A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Chapel at 2:00 pm. Family will receive visitors prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Free Will Baptist Church, 808 W. Club Blvd, Durham, NC 27701.

Mom lived a long and happy life. We will miss her.  Heaven has gained an angel.
