James “Ray” Andrews, Sr.

DURHAM Mr. James “Ray” Andrews, Sr., 71, of Durham, N.C. died on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

Mr. Andrews was born in Rutherfordton, N.C.,  to the son of the late James Franklin Andrews and Sally Louise Henson Andrews. He moved to Durham in 1955 and in 1961 graduated from Durham High School. Ray married Phyllis Hutchison on August 18, 1967.  After serving in the U.S. National Guard, he worked for Owen-Illinois then started his own home repair business after Owens left town.  He was a member of the Oak Grove Athletic Association where he coached and served as President and board member. Ray enjoyed coaching and watching his children play ball.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis Hutchison Andrews; daughter, Paula Andrews Moss and husband, Johnny; son, James Ray “Andy”Andrews, Jr.; grandchildren, Savana, Averee and Karsyn Andrews; his best friend and riding partner, Brittany; sisters, Charlotte Louise Spencer and Deborah Jean Andrews and other loving family members.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 9^th at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Rev Kenneth Forehand will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
