James Baxter Starnes

BAHAMA Mr. James Baxter Starnes, 71, of Bahama, died on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
Mr. Starnes was born in Alamance County, the son of the late Zebulon Vance Starnes and Meta Wright Starnes. He served in the U.S. Army and was a self-employed Painter. He loved to sing and cook, loved skydiving and enjoyed reading western novels by Louis L’amour. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Ivy Woods; son, Joel Starnes; brothers, John Starnes and Jack Starnes.
He is survived by his life-partner, Judy Matthews; stepson, Matt Woods (Lorraine) of Florida; two daughters, Cheryl Daniel (Keith) of Butner and Kelly Wood (Robert) of Creedmoor; brothers, Zeb Starnes (Julie) of Southport, N.C. and Kenneth Starnes (Debbie) of Texas; sister, Judy Oswald (Roger) of Durham; grandchildren, Lauren Autrey, Joshua Autrey, Olivia Daniel, Hannah Wood, Jacob Wood, Kasey Woods, Tristen Woods and one great-grandchild, Ayden Alston.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery immediately following the service. Chapel. Rev. Johnny Hewett will officiate.
