James Donald “Don” Dixon

June 1, 1950 — May 9, 2021

DURHAM- Mr. James Donald Dixon, 70, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021.

Don was born on June 1, 1950 to John and Anne Dixon in Granville County, North Carolina. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed taking part in Vacation Bible School. Don loved teaching and touched many lives. He retired from Wake County Public schools as an educator. During his career he received numerous awards for excellence in teaching. In addition to his love for teaching, he was an avid tennis player and golfer. He loved music and spent many hours playing guitar and singing with family and friends.  Those who knew Don will remember his quick-wit, sense of humor, and gift of conversation.  His favorite days were spent on the porch with good friends and a cup of coffee.  Don loved going to the beach, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He will be remembered as a caring son, husband, father, uncle, and friend.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother, Doug Dixon.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cindy Dixon; daughter, Emily Caroline Dixon; niece, Jennifer Dawley (Rob); nephew, Jonathan Dixon (Kendra) and their children; and his grand-dog, Fred.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
