DURHAM James Harold Mitchell of Sanford passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014. He was a former resident of 2118 Englewood Avenue in Durham. He was the son of the late Lonnie R. Mitchell and Ella Cook Mitchell. He is also predeceased by his wife, Emma Sinclair Mitchell; and son, Tommy James Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell served in the United States Army and retired from Burlington Industries. He enjoyed attending church at Lee’s Chapel where he was a member and also loved to hunt, fish, and watch cowboy movies. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by 2 sons, Melvin Eugene Mitchell of Florida, and Lonnie Dean Mitchell of Durham; 1 daughter-in-law, Lois Mitchell of Apex; 1 brother, Merlyn Dean Mitchell of Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Hudson Chapel on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 2 pm. Reverend Stuart Aycock will officiate with Kenneth Appel speaking. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Delong, Jerry Fowler, Scott Wilmoth, Adam Merrell, Kenneth Appel, and Jerry King.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 5, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
