James Metrius “Crow” Blake

November 25, 1936 — January 17, 2022

Mr. James “Crow” Metrius Blake, of Durham, NC, age 85, passed away on January 17, 2022.

James was born on November 25, 1936, a son of the late F.L. and Lula Blake. Mr. Blake was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. James was a hard worker. He devoted 46 years to his job with Nello Teer Company. He was always willing to help and share his knowledge with others. James was a UNC Tarheel fan. He loved to play golf and be outside in his garden. James will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Blake was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia Dare Porterfield Blake; brothers, Ollie Blake, F.L. Blake, Jr., and Jesse Carl Blake; and sisters, Rachel Everette, Josephine Hamilton, Sarah Champion, and Bessie Blake.

Mr. Blake is survived by his son, Jonah Wayne Blake (Diane); daughter, Linda Gale Piper (Russell); brother, Johnny Blake (Peggy); grandchildren, Heather Ryder, Jarrett Piper (Kari), Kaylynne Piper, Ernest Piper (Kayla), Alexiz Piper, and Jamie Howell (Melissa); great-grandchildren, Jonathon Howell, Jamison Howell, Stella Godwin, Jaxson Ryder, Raquel Piper, Eila Piper, and Winston Piper; as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.

No services will be held at this time.
