James Michael “Peanut” Stainback

DURHAM Mr. James Michael “Peanut” Stainback, 58, of 5014 Redwood Road, passed on Monday, January 26, 2015.
Mr. Stainback was lifelong resident of Durham. He was a 1975 graduate of Southern High School, a member of the Redwood Community and Gorman Baptist Church. He retired after 30 years from Duke University as an Assistant Grounds Superintendent. Mike was an avid backpacker, loved fishing, and collecting arrowheads. He was a Duke fan and a member of the Iron Dukes. He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Oliver Stainback.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Hinson Stainback; son, Oliver Stainback of Durham; daughter, Shelley Stainback of Durham; his mother, Beaufort H. Stainback of Durham; two brothers, Preston Stainback of Morganton and Kerry Stainback of Durham; sister, Debbie Hicks of Raleigh. Mike was a loving uncle of his nieces and nephew; Katie Stainback, Kendel Stainback, Lynnsey Johnson, Jeffrey Stainback, Hilary Hicks, Brian Hicks, Colton Hicks and the late Christopher Stainback.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Preston Stainback and Rev. Greg Allison will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jason Price, Kendel Stainback, Jeffrey Stainback, Brian Hicks, Kivett Hicks and Mike Peiffer.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at 2710 Cooksbury Drive.
