James Palmer Ayscue

RALEIGH- Mr. James Palmer (J.P.) Ayscue, 72, passed away Thursday February 2, 2017.J.P. was born on April 28, 1944 in Warrenton, NC, to the late James and Sadie King Ayscue. He spent his childhood growing up in the Soapstone Community in Wake County. J.P. was baptized during a revival when he was 11 years old and attended North Raleigh Presbyterian Church. J.P. married Patricia Nichols on September 27, 1969 and they enjoyed 47 happy years together. During his early years, J.P. enjoyed working on cars and racing cars. He always had a love for sports, listening to music, playing his guitar and also enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. J.P. enlisted and served in the Army National Guard for six years. He retired from IBM in 1992. He enjoyed a wonderful retirement and especially taking care of his grandchildren. J.P. cherished the time spent with them and was a proud “Papa J”.J.P. is survived by his wife; Patricia Nichols Ayscue; daughter, Angie Denning and husband Jeff of Creedmoor, NC; son, Greg Ayscue, of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Brooke, fiancé Michael Thompson and Austin Denning, of Creedmoor, NC. J.P. leaves behind a sister and a brother; Jean Ayscue Nipper of Franklinton, NC and David Ayscue (Jamie) of Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Kent Hollingsworth of North Raleigh Presbyterian Church and Rev. Tim McCreight of Shady Grove Church. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Johnny Watkins, Michael Nipper, Steven Nipper, Jon Arnold, James Ayscue, Jerry Morgan, Woody King, and Bryan Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Denning, Roy Gardner, Ed Johnson, Brian Ferrell, Kyle Durham, and Ted Nipper. The family will receive friends at Hudson Funeral Home on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable.
