James Vernon Avery

CREEDMOOR- Mr. James Vernon Avery, 77, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Hock Family Pavilion.
Mr. Avery was born September 19, 1941 to the late Ernest and Irene Avery in Wilmington, NC. He worked 29 years at IBM as a High Voltage Electrician where he retired. Mr. Avery was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church. He loved all of his family especially his grandchildren. Mr. Avery was an avid fisherman and loved Topsail Beach. He loved nature and enjoyed collecting things and tinkering, War History and collecting North Carolina Lighhouses were also an interest of his.
Mr. Avery is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Irene Avery; brother, Albert Avery; sister, Sylvia.
Mr. Avery is survived by his wife, Mary H. Avery of Creedmoor, NC; daughter, Kim Avery of Timberlake, NC; step-sons, Ronald Fain (Kimberly) of Forest, VA, Wendell Fain (Denise) of Rougemont, NC, Terry Fain (Cindy) of Clarksville, VA; step-daughter, Teresa Harris (Mark) of Wilton, NC; grandchildren, Justin Fain (Amanda) of Roanoke, VA, Allison Moecher (Patrick) of San Clemente, CA, Jessica Hinesley (Corey) of Oxford, NC, Zachary Fain of Durham, NC, Brittany Fain of Raleigh, NC, Gabrielle Fain of Manson, NC, Dillon Fain of Rougemont, NC, Michael Harris of Wilton, NC, Rachel Harris of Wilton, NC; great-grandchildren, Deacon Fain of Roanoke, VA, Emilayne Hinesley of Oxford, NC and Griffin Moecher of San Clemente, CA.
A visitation will be held Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Olive Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Steve Pierce. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Justin Fain, Michael Harris, Zachary Fain, Dillon Fain and Macon Tunstall. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Aiken and Tom Johnson.
