DURHAM- Mr. James Wesley Carlton, 87, passed away, Saturday, February 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Carlton was born July 21, 1931 to the late James Lowe and Lois Herndon Carlton in Cary, NC. He was employed with Liggett Myers for over 40 years where he retired. Mr. Carlton proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Carlton was the past chairman of the board of directors at the Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. Mr. Carlton loved woodworking and fixing anything and playing jokes. He was a loving and devoted husband, patient and kind man, and the best father in the world. His greatest joy was helping others in times of need.
Mr. Carlton is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan Turner Carlton; parents, James Lowe and Lois Herndon Carlton; sister, Frances Hutchins.
Mr. Carlton is survived by his daughter, Kimberly “Kim” Carlton Carden and husband Charlie of Clayton, NC; sister, Martha Biggs of Durham, NC.
James’s family would like to express sincere appreciation for the loving care, kindness, and dedication provided by Sara Lockamy and Margaret Lee. Also special thanks to Lewis Adams for the lifelong friendship they shared.
Pallbearers will be Mark King, Mike Biggs, Steve Biggs, Mark Hutchins, Melvin Wilkins and Johnnie Carden.
A visitation will be held an hour prior, Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Hugh O’Shields. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
