Janet Ruth Harward Sherron, 95, passed away May 3, 2020, at Brookdale Senior Living in Durham after years of declining health. She was born on Sept. 10, 1924, in Durham to William H. and Mittie Johnson Harward. She married William Jackson “Jack” Sherron in 1942 at the age of 17 and moved to Sherron Road where she lived for more than 60 years as a housewife and helping run the family farm. In addition to her husband of 58 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by her two beloved children, William Jackson Sherron, Jr., and Julie Kaye Sherron Painter; and her four siblings, Doris Harward Gardner, Tommy Harward, Billy Harward, and Donald “Bunny” Harward.
At her death, Janet was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, but she was a decades-long member at Plainview Baptist Church where she developed many strong friendships through the years. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Janice S. Sherron; three granddaughters, Jennifer S. Harrison (Chris), Jill Sherron-Taylor (Joe), and Kristen P. Gonzalez; a grandson, Brantley V. Painter (Tasia); 10 great-grandchildren, Evan, Eric and Emma Kate Harrison; Janie Sherron, Jackson and Makayla Taylor; Julian and Giovanni Gonzalez; Adalynn and Lennon Painter; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed for her sweet laugh, great sense of humor, her amazing cooking, but most of all, her joyous spirit.
A family graveside service, led by Rev. Ed Denton, will be held at the Sherron family cemetery on Sherron Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 133 Robbins Road, Durham, NC, 27703.
