Joan Marshall Mitchell

DURHAM- Joan Suzanne Marshall Mitchell, 73, of Durham passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Wilbur Pershing Marshall and Mary Elizabeth Corrie Marshall. Joan was an Attorney and owner of Mitchell Law Office in Durham. Joan was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church where she taught The Sisters Sunday School Class. Joan was a Phi Beta Kappa Member at UNC Chapel Hill. She previously served as a board member for NC Baptist Children’s Homes and Baptist State Convention of NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Newton Mitchell.
She is survived by her son, Michael N. Mitchell and wife Veronica of Durham; daughter, Janna Mitchell Elliott and husband Craig of Durham; six grandchildren, Lauren Elliott, Mackenzie Elliott Fretz (Danny), Mary-Craig Elliott, Graycie Elliott, Bruce Mitchell (Mikaila) and Ben Mitchell; brother, Steve Marshall of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Mitchell Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Barry Black, Bruce Mitchell, Ben Mitchell, Phil Mitchell, O. Crafton Mitchell III, and Craig Elliott.
