John Nathaniel Russell, Jr.

DURHAM Mr. John Nathaniel Russell, Jr., 71, of Durham, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
Mr. Russell was born in Oxford, the son of the late John N. Russell, Sr. and Nannie Belle Williams Russell. He retired from the Durham Public Schools in HVAC. He was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church on Leesville Road and a charter member of the Lynn’s Crossroads Ruritan Club. He was predeceased by his two brothers, James Wade Russell and Charles Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Russell; son, James Nathaniel Russell (Julie); daughter, Amy Russell Hale (Steve); step-children; Keith Gunter (Barb), Melanie Whitten (Kevin) and Sheri Henson (Jeremy); grandchildren, Wade Russell, Madison Russell, Carter Hale, Nathan Hale and step-grandchildren, Jaymee and Zachary Gunter, Chelsea, Kendall and April Whitten, Adrienne and Cole Henson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Billy Keith and Rev. Tim Wheeler will officiate. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ricky Chandler, Dwayne George, Larry Ricks, George Woods, Steve Timberlake and Joe Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Gardner and Doug Sikes.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to the Duke Cancer Institute at www.gifts.duke.edu.
