John Richard Knott

DURHAM- John Richard Knott, 73, of Durham passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015. He was the son of the late Basil Knott and Suzie Daniels Knott. He served in the U.S. Navy with Military Honors. Mr. Knott was a member of Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church, was in the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his son, Merle Knott; and sister, Shirley Scott.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Judith Knott; son, Gerald Knott of Durham; daughters, Jill Rhew (Mike) of Durham; and Jan Patrick of Durham; daughter-in-law; Dina Knott; grandchildren; Allison Hobbs (Gene), Joshua Knott,  Justin Rhew, Jonathan Rhew and Jacob Patrick; great-grandchildren; Tucker Milligan, Landon Milligan and Camden Geddings; Aunt Allene Harris from GA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church, 3805 Carpenter Pond Rd., Durham.  Pastor Tim McCreight and Pastor Jimmy Pulley will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Joshua Knott, Justin Rhew, Jonathan Rhew, Jacob Patrick, Talmadge Woods, Wesley Davis, Larry Rhew, Jr. and Ashley Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class, Earl Woods, Dene Haugland, John Tuck, and Buster Ray.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 15, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church and other times at the home.
