Johnny Mack Lawrence

Mr. Johnny Mack Lawrence 86 of Durham, NC passed away on December 8, 2023.  Johnny Mack Lawrence was born of the late parents William Albert Lawrence of Granville County & Annie Lee Lawrence.

Mr Johnny Lawrence was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Lawrence, son Robert Earl Lawrence, and sister Ella “Cup” Lawrence.

Mr Johnny Lawrence was survived by his former wife Kathy Lawrence; daughter Angela Haskins; son James Lawrence, son Johnny Burwell, son Joshua Lawrence & daughter Whitney Lawrence; brother Ed Lawrence, brother Harold Lawrence and sister Sarah Lawrence.  He had many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Johnny worked at the Athol Corporation for over 40 years thus retired and later returning back to the corporation for some years. He served his ministry as guitar player at Greater Joy Baptist Church and Pine Grove Baptist Church. He also played at local churches throughout his life. He was well known as a legendary musician. Johnny’s enjoyment centered around playing his guitar, spending time with his children, brothers, sisters, grandchildren and many friends. He never met a stranger. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. 

An event will be held in the future. His wishes were not to have a funeral.
