Joyce Hewett Perry

Joyce Hewett Perry, 86, of Durham, North Carolina passed on to heaven peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 17, 2022. She was born April 27, 1936, in Brunswick Co., NC to the late James and Hettie Hewett.

Mrs. Perry worked for many years as an Assembly Worker for General Electric until her retirement in 1995.  She worked some of her retirement years at Sunshine Smiles Day Care preparing delicious meals.  Joyce was greatly loved by the staff and children there. She was a longtime member of Friendly Hills Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC.   She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, William T. Perry; sons, Jerry Cates and Stanley Cates and sister, Margie Thornburg.

Mrs. Perry is survived by her son, Willard R. Cates (Susan); daughter, Carol Cates; brother, Ethridge L. Hewett (Carolyn); 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and her caregiver Ms. Betty Petty.

A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.  Officiating will be Pastor Bobby Tate.
