Juanita Hales Harris, 90, formerly of Durham, North Carolina peacefully passed away in Chase City, VA at her daughters’ home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 10, 2024. She was born on June 11, 1934, in Wilson, NC to the late Fernie and Martha Hales.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Buck Harris; son, Roby Keith Turner; brothers, Elbert Hales, Ray Hales, Joseph Hales and Wayne Hales; sisters, Irene Moyer and Rena Hales; grandson, Stephen Turner and great grandsons, Ethan Price and Isaiah Batten.
Mrs. Harris retired from Continental Paper after over 20 years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Durham where she enjoyed her friends.
Juanita loved to shop and was sometimes humorously known as a “Shopaholic”. However, in her kind nature, she just didn’t shop for herself, it could be for anyone she was thinking of. She was also a skilled seamstress and enjoyed gardening.
Most of all Juanita enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all her family and the many friends she made over her wonderful life.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughters, Debra Edwards (Mike) and Arlene Gurganus (Mark); sisters, Shirley Barrett and Linda Hudson; grandchildren, Timothy, David, Joseph, Matthew, Benjamin, Ethan, Johnathan, Hannah, Christina, Faith, Melissa, Sarah and April; 27 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other family members.
A Private Service for immediate family only will be held at a later date.
Serving as Pallbearers will be grandsons, Timothy Batten, Ethan Gurganus, Joseph Edwards, Benjamin Edwards, Johnathan Turner and Matthew Turner.
And with our hearts heavy with gratitude, we would like to thank Micalea Claiborne, for helping to care for our beloved mother from the time she came home from the hospital to the moment she passed to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Flowers are acceptable and for those who wish to send flowers, they can be delivered to Hudson Funeral by 4:00 P.M. Thursday, August 15, 2024.
