DURHAM-Mr. Justice Thomas Champion, 82, of 3609 Gibson Rd. died on Monday, March 28, 2011. He as a native and lifelong resident of Durham, and was a member of Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Elijah Juble Champion and Alpha Jane Chappell Champion. Mr. Champion served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Golden Belt Mfg. Co. He was a loving husband, father, and all grand kids called him “Pa Pa” he also loved the Shriners. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl Champion and J.N. Champion, 2 sisters, Catherine Lundsford and Fay Kanas, also 1 grandson, Chad Champion.He is survived by his wife; Mary Lou Champion of the home, 2 sons, Tommy “Bubba” Champion, Gary Champion (wife) Tammy all of Durham; 3 brothers, James Champion of Texas; Billy Champion of Conn.; and Winky Champion of Kentucky; 2 sisters, Mary Tolly of Durham, Anne Yarborough of Creedmoor; 1 grandchild, Rachel Champion, 4 great-grandchildren, Chassity Champion, Patsy Champion, Chad Shepard, Khloe Watson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Frank Rice will officiate. Burial will be in Hopson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at 4822 Kemp Rd. Flowers acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com
