Katherine Ann Burgess

Katherine Ann Burgess, 91, a sweet, kind and loving soul, peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, October 27, 2023.  She was born to the late John and Arvesta Dodd on November 10, 1931 in Midway, Sussex County, Delaware.

Katherine is preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence “Dub” Burgess; brother, Boe Dodd and sister, Lillian Hennessey.

She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Sitte; brother, Laurence Dodd (Lillian); and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Mrs. Burgess was a longtime and faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church. She adored her church family and friends and cherished spending time with them.  

She was an avid UNC Football and Duke Blue Devil’s fan and she always watched and rooted for her team.  

After her husband Clarence’ “Dub’s” passing, Mrs. Burgess learned more so than ever how independent she was.  She took care of her yard and picked, shelled and gifted pecans from her huge pecan tree to give to family and beloved friends.  For many years she traveled on her own to New York for the Holiday Season to spend time with her sister Evelyn and family.  When traveling became too hard as she aged, she would spend the holidays with her church family and friends.

Katherine did not have children, however, she regularly said how grateful she was for Mrs. Janet Ray whom she loved and cherished like a daughter.

Katherine will be remembered as loving wife, sister, aunt and friend who always found the good in everyone.  Her contagious laugh will never be forgotten.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Liberty Baptist Church, 3864 Guess Road, Durham, NC.  Officiating will be Pastor Scott Gray.  Interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
