DURHAM Ms. Kathleen Jean Woods Pridgen 78, of Durham, passed away on Thursday, August 06, 2015.
Ms. Pridgen was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Gattis Woods and Helen Harris Woods. She was employed with IBM Corp. for 15 years and retired in 1987. Ms. Pridgen was a lifetime member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member and secretary of the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class and the Happy Wanderers. She was an active church member and participated in many church organizations and enjoyed Vacation Bible School and fundraising events. Ms. Pridgen was a member of the last graduating class of Oak Grove High School, Class of 1956. She will be remembered as a giving and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all blessed to have known her. Her sweet smile will always be remembered. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Jerry R. Pridgen, stepson; Butch Pridgen; step-daughter, Sandra Brown; brothers, Wiley Woods, C.D. Woods and sisters, Shirley Brame and Debbie Smart.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Pate; daughters, Lisa Pearson Garcia and Kimberly Pridgen Gunter (James Randall); step-daughter, Debbie Rigsbee (Ricky); stepson, Bryant Pridgen (Robin) and Timmy Pridgen; 6 grandchildren, Tony Sanchez, April Whitfield (Scott), Casey Garcia (fiancé, Timmy Ferrell), Kenny Hewett (Erica), Tiffani Gunter and Joe Gunter, Jr.; 8 step-grandchildren, Tracey Taylor (Josh), David Blake (Tasha), Al Smith, Megan Smith, Angie Johnson (Eric), Juanita Pridgen, Brian Franks and Brandon Brown; 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Gerald Goodwin and Rev. Ed Denton will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tony Sanchez, Kenneth Hewett, Joe Gunter, Jr., Wayne Hollen, Scott Whitfield, Michael Appel, Bradley Pate and Bryant Pridgen. Honorary pallbearers will be James Woods and George Woods.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral home and other times at the home. Memorial gifts may be made to Durham Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 133 Robbins Rd, Durham NC 27703. The family would like to give a special thank you to her CNA, Carla, Nurse, Beth and the Duke Hospice team for their care of Ms. Pridgen during her illness.
