APPEL, SR.DURHAM Mr. Kenneth Chester Appel, Sr., 77, of 1629 Greenbrier Street, passed away on Sunday, January 09, 2011. As was true on every Sunday, he was surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Mr. Appel was born in Greensboro on June 27, 1933 to the late Joseph Jacob Appel and Minnie Crow Appel. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in Munich Germany. He was a member of the Old Fashioned Tabernacle. He was a retired truck driver and mechanic and was a member of the Teamsters. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ann, Martha and Erma; brothers, Marvin and Ed Appel and also a grandson, David Lee Appel.He is survived by his wife, Barbara Parrish Appel; two sons, Kenneth Appel, Jr. (Sue) and Jerry W. Appel; two daughters, Vivian Harris (David) and Elizabeth Tackett (Charlie); three sisters, Elba Jo Watkins, Norma J. McFarland and Kay Nichols; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Mark, Stephen, Michele, Kenni, Sheri, Todd, Jerry Wayne, Jr., Miranda and 13 great-grandchildren, Mark, Elizabeth, Skyler, Liam, Reina, Haley, Cameron, Ethan, Dylan, Savannah, Rebecca, Destani and Julian.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Bill Lawrence and Pastor Don Wadford. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Stephen Barbour, Matthew Harris, David Appel, Steve Appel, Mike Appel and Gary Appel. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Vivian Harris, 919 Glenco Road. The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Agatucci and the DRH ER Staff for their care of Mr. Appel.
