Lavern Coley Marks

CREEDMOOR- Mary Lavern Coley Marks, 87, passed peacefully on September 23, 2018.Daughter of the late Gaye Cleveland Coley and Mary Mattie Husketh Coley. Lavern, or more commonly known as Vern or Mrs. Marks, was born in Durham, NC on June 3, 1931. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob Marks and her brothers Harley Dhue and Anfis Dhue.She is survived by her daughters; Greta Inscoe (Bryant) and Kaylor Suitt (Terry); granddaughters, Magan Smith and Haley Althaus (Tim); and three great grandchildren, Matilyn and Brady Smith and Harper Althaus.Lavern was well known in the community and left a lasting impression on everyone she came across. She was quick to lend a helping hand, loved having a good time and a good laugh, and always gave her opinion, whether it was asked for or not. Anyone that knew her knew she only had one speed, fast, which often meant driving 60 mph down B Street in her little grey Ford truck. Lavern always worked hard and never took no for an answer. She always looked forward to her weekly Sunday visit from her great nephews, Butch Pope and Mike Pope.Lavern was of the Baptist faith and was a caregiver to her late husband and late aunt for 20 plus years. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, especially our family friend, Bobby Satterwhite.Visitation will be held at Hudson Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.A private graveside service will be held.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Granville County Animal Shelter 5650 Cornwall Road Oxford, NC 27565.Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
