It is with great sadness in our hearts that we, the Muñoz family, have to announce the passing of our 96-year-old patriarch, Lido Guarionex Munoz Alcantara on October 9, 2024 in Durham, NC. Lido was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. Lido left behind his loving wife of 59 years, Ana Muñoz; his children: Lee Paul Muñoz, Liana Muñoz-Lipps, Lido Anthony Muñoz; his grandchildren: Zoe Marie Muñoz and Anthony Lee Muñoz.
Lido was born in La Romana, Dominican Republic on September 13, 1928. He grew up in La Romana and worked for the Central Romana Corporation before legally immigrating to the United States in April of 1952. Lido had a variety of occupations here in the United States. He was a salesman of various goods before getting his job as a Technical Illustrator with General Electric (GE). While at GE, he worked on several government contracts, that took him to many governmental facilities (e.g., military bases, NASA, etc.) all over the United States. Perhaps, this is where he got his desire to travel. After his contractor work (both as part of GE and later, as self-employed) Lido owned a gas service station for a number of years before selling it, in order to live more a “normal life” with regular working hours. Some of these very same jobs entailed sales, but this time, in hardware before his retirement in November of 1990.
As stated, Lido was an avid traveler: He had either visited or lived in most of the United States and other countries like Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and of course, the Dominican Republic. His other interests were helping people, walking, watching world news/baseball, singing classic Spanish slow songs, playing dominoes, and especially, doting on his grandchildren.
In addition to his immediate family, Lido helped many members of his family and his wife’s family to legally immigrate and become proud citizens of these United States. His extended family is extremely grateful and appreciative for all his help and their wonderful lives here in the U.S.
Lido will be forever loved and missed in our hearts, minds, and spirits.
There will be a private burial at Maplewood cemetery.
