Lila Harris Hutchins 85, of Durham, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2022. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, James Reedy Harris and Edith Williams Harris Coppage; husband, Edward Carver Hutchins; and brother, James Williams Harris.
Lila celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage to Carver. They have three children Edward Keith Hutchins (Wanda), Lisa Carol Hutchins (Cindy) and Jeffrey Linn Hutchins (Theresa). Two grandsons Edward Kevin Hutchins and Derek Linn Hutchins (Sarah).
Lila graduated from Durham High School, Class of 1956. She worked for Thalhimers for many years as a Collection Manager. She and Dad also built and ran the H&H Sandwich Shop in downtown Durham for several years. A Member of Durham Memorial Baptist church, she served on many committees including Memorial and Benevolence.
Lila was a loving, caring, and strong woman with a great since of humor. She loved to laugh and spend time with her family no matter the occasion. She will be deeply missed and will be forever in our hearts.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 133 Robbins Rd, Durham N.C.
Officiating will Pastor Rob Stone and Dr. Gerald Goodwin.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Cannady, Raye Adcock, Todd Rogers, Jerry Chappell, Thomas Chappell and Zach Chappell. Honorary Pallbearers will Tommy Price, Ronnie Gower and Al Matthews.
