Lillian McGhee Cameron, 88, of the Carpenter Community and a longtime member of Gorman Baptist Church, Durham, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 22, after a brief illness.She was born and raised in Carpenter to Carl T. and Salome McGhee on March 17, 1924.A graduate of Green Hope High School in Carpenter and Croft Business School Durham, she began her working career with Dr. Lewis McKee in Butner, NC. She went on to work and retired from North Carolina Blue Cross and Blue Shield.She was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty years, James W. Cameron, on January 25, 2007, and brothers Carl T. McGhee, Jr., and Philip McGhee.Lillian was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She is survived by three children; daughter Brenda Merle Cameron of Oak Island, James W. Cameron, II, and wife Leann of Durham, Philip G. Cameron and wife Carol Brooks of Carpenter; two dear grandchildren, Michael Brooks of Oak Island and precious baby Lillian Cameron of Durham; sister-in-law in Dorothy Bunce of Dunn and nieces, Phyllis McLamb and Sheryl Watson; nephews, Carl, Mark, and Michael McGhee.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastors Julian Motley and C. J. Bordeaux of Gorman Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Buster Wall, Jerry Jones, Pete Oliver, Julius Goss, Charlie Bass and Al Clever. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Durham.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service, at the funeral home.Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to Gorman Baptist Church or a charity of one’s choice.
