DURHAM COUNTY – Lois Marie Hall Terry was born in Durham, North Carolina, on September 4, 1930, and passed away at a nursing home in Lincolnton, North Carolina, on October 5, 2023, after an extended illness. She is the daughter of the late Haywood Martin Hall and Mary Elizabeth (Hough) Hall from Durham, and has one surviving sister, Lucille (Hall) Fowler in Durham. 

Mrs. Terry graduated from Durham High School and later married James “Ray” Terry from Durham in March 1951. She worked for the old Uzzle Cadillac Oldsmobile dealership in downtown Durham as a secretary for many years, as well as the National Center of Health Statistics in RTP, for 10 years as a keypunch operator. In her later life, she worked for FCX until her retirement. She was a former member of the old Hyde Park Pentecostal Holiness Church in Durham. Mrs. Terry enjoyed gardening, sewing and doing crafts. 

Ms. Terry was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a housewife. She is preceded in death by two of her four children, Raiford Earl Terry, and David Martin “Squeaky” Terry; and granddaughter, Ashley Ann Terry. She has two surviving daughters, Sandra Marie (Terry) Watkins in Hickory, North Carolina, and Mary Lynn (Terry) Rigsbee in Lincolnton, North Carolina. Mrs. Terry had four grandchildren: Robert Martin Terry, who lives in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her youngest daughter, Mary Rigsbee, has two children: David Lee and Patrick Scott Rigsbee. She also has six great-grandchildren. There are also several nieces and nephews, as well as their children. 

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Woodlawn Memorial Park off Miami Boulevard in East Durham. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Shelton.
