LOUIS GEORGE HOFSTETTER, JR.Jun. 16, 1914 – Dec. 1, 2011WINSTON-SALEM – Louis George Hofstetter, Jr., passed away peacefully on Thurs., Dec. 1,2011 at Arbor Acres. Louis was born June 16, 1914 in Allentown, PA to Louis G. Hofstetter, Sr. and Veronica Cziffer. He served in the U. S. Army Medical Service Corps during WWII. He also served during the Korean War. During his service in the Army, he was stationed abroad in Germany and Japan, in addition to numerous bases in the U.S. He retired after 25 years at the rank of Colonel. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling in the U.S., vegetable gardening, and reading. Louis also had a love and knowledge of old movies. He liked nothing better than having family and friends watch the “old classics” with him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dayle; sisters Marie Tien, Elizabeth Koeth and Viola Ridgeway. He is survived by one son, Jeffrey Hofstetter & wife Lee of Longmont, CO; two daughters, Diana Moore & husband Don of Lewisville, NC and Debra Linthicum of Valdosta, GA; one brother Albert Hofstetter & wife Melinda of Dayton, OH; five sisters, Helen Cole of Medina, OH; Christine Culley & husband Paul of Westlake/Avon, OH; Rosemary Fahler of Medina, OH; Agnes Rice of Lodi, OH; and Janet Nemecek of Lodi, OH; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at Arbor Acres and Hospice & Palliative Care for the love and care they gave Louis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 6 at Hudson Funeral Home in Durham, NC. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens cemetery.
