Lucille R. Prunski

Lucille R. Prunski, born April 6, 1929, died June 21, 2023, at 94 years of age.  A native of Dover, North Carolina, she lived in Austin, Texas during the past year due to illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Prunski, and survived by her daughter Charlotte (Salisbury) Putter of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Dr. Donald Salisbury of Fresno, California, Mara Nell Salisbury of Seal Beach, California, brothers Gene Russell of Nashville, Tennessee, Curtis Russell of Jacksonville, North Carolina and several cousins, nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Virginia.

After early education in Dover, she pursued a career in nursing, graduating from the Rocky Mount Sanitorium in Rocky Mount, N. C.  Employment followed in the Washington, D. C. area where she met her husband, a career officer in the U. S. Coast Guard.

After several years' residence in Boston, she separated from her husband and returned to North Carolina in 1970 where she was employed by the VA Hospital in Durham, N. C., retiring after 25 years  in 1995.

It was in Durham that Lucille built a General Store of which she was very proud, and she ran it in addition to nursing full time. There she met her great love and best friend Eugene Fletcher. They shared a loving and supportive relationship for more than 30 years. She often spoke fondly of his daughter and Eugene's extended family members.

Lucille considered Durham her "home" where she enjoyed many friends, church and numerous social groups. Lucille lived a very full life and will be greatly missed by many.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Hudson Funeral Home in their chapel. A luncheon will be held at a nearby restaurant following the service.  Let me know if you are to be included in luncheon for planning purposes.          csalisbu29@yahoo.com
