DURHAM-Luna Mae Hocutt Woods, 84, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, a truly remarkable woman went to be with her Lord and Savior. A fantastic mother, grandmother and caring lady to all her family and friends. A high school graduate with some extended education. An employee of Duke University and the Medical Center for 44 years. Starting out in the payroll dept. in the sixties, then becoming a cancer tumor representative and supervisor later on. She was the founding member of the N.C. Tumor Registrar Association. Plus an award from the Governor of N.C. for her accomplishments. No matter how tight her busy schedule was she always had time for family. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Stephenson Hocutt and Nettie Fields Hocutt. Mrs. Woods was a member of Smith Chapel. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Pitts and granddaughter Lindsay Marie Williams. After a twelve day battle in the ICU at Duke our family had to let her go. A wonderful, incredible woman, she will never be forgotten! She is survived by her son, Graham Williams of Durham; five grandchildren, Matthew James Houghton, Christopher Michael Williams, Emily Susan Williams, David Pitts and Daniel Pitts, one brother-in-law, Jim Pitts. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home, other times at the home of her son, Graham at 527 Stoney Creek Circle. Flowers are acceptable.
