BYRDRALEIGH Mrs. Lunette W. Byrd, 74, of 5020 Wood Valley Drive, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, after a brief illness.Mrs. Byrd was a native of Johnston County the daughter of the late Joe and Louella Godwin Whitman. Along with her husband they started the Tastee Freez in the Wellons Village area in Durham in 1959.She is survived by her husband, Zachary “Zack” Byrd, Sr.; two sons, Zachary L. “Jay” Byrd, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Raleigh and Chris Byrd and wife, Beverly of Stem; one daughter, Leticia Byrd Gadbois and husband, Don of Creedmoor; extended family member, Carmen Fajardo of Caracas, Venezuela; two brothers, Sherwood Lee Whitman of Kure Beach and Woodrow Whitman of Benson; three sisters, Emma Pearl Whitman of McKinney Tex., Naomi Johnson of Garner and Claudia Cannon of Durham; five grandsons, Tyler Atkins and wife, Mandi, Jordan Byrd, Tristan Hardiman, Brandon Byrd, Matthew Byrd and a great-grandson, Luca Atkins Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Forehand. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 5020 Wood Valley Drive.
