DURHAM- Mrs. LuWanda Kay Whitfield, 79, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Duke University Hosptial.
Mrs. Whitfield was born on December 17, 1937 in Durham to the late David and Geneva Lee. Mrs. Whitfield retired from LabCorp after over 20 years of service as well as Buick in Durham for over 20 years. She was a former longtime member of Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church and attended Olive Branch Baptist Church. She loved to travel and go to the beach but most of all being with her grandchildren and family. Kay will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was a faithful friend and will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.
Mrs. Whitfield is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Fields; son, Richard Glen Fields; sister, Linda Stell.
Mrs. Whitfield is survived by her husband, James “Jay” Whitfield of 35 years; daughters, Debbie Kay Parnell (Ray) and Cindy Hunt; son, Cecil Ray Fields, Jr. (Lori “Sugie”); grandchildren, Shana Kay Winans (Mike), Lauren Parnell (Matt), Ric Fields; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Winans and Awesome Cull and other loving family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Buck Ferrell, Jimmy Whitfield, Ray Parnell, Mike Winans, Tracy Stell, and Evan Dufresne.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Johnny Hewett and Rev. Tim Wheeler. Burial will follow at Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
