Margaret Harris Evans, 97, of Durham, North Carolina went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, November 11, 2024. She was born at her parents’ home on Jackson Street in Durham on November 7, 1927. She was the daughter of late Samuel Graham Harris and Ollie Dickerson Harris
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Eric Ray Evans and a brother, Bernard Harris.
Mrs. Evans graduated from Durham High School class of 1945. She was a cherished member of the Gospel Center and Grove Park Chapel for over 70 years. Her dedication to her church family was unwavering, and her love for her Sunday School class friends was evident in every gathering she attended. She treasured the time spent together, whether it was in worship, fellowship, or simply sharing a meal. She collected recipes and was a wonderful cook. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends and was faithful in studying her Bible.
Mrs. Evans retired Noland Company after 41 years of service as a secretary. She loved spending time at the beach, eating dark chocolate, spending time with her family during the holidays and watching FOX news.
Mrs. Evans is survived by a son, Greg Evans, and wife Barbara of Durham; daughter Karen Grafton and husband Roger of Reidville, N.C.; grandchildren, Benjamin Grafton and wife Joanne, Jessica Loye and husband Matt, Elizabeth Fargis and husband Seth and Blaine Barbee and husband Jason; also 10 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday November 14, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Park Chapel, located at 805 Sherron Rd. Durham, NC 27703. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Brooks. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roger Grafton, Seth Fargis, Matt Loye, Benjamin Grafton, Connor McMichael and Grafton McMichael.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Evans to Gideons International or to Samaritan’s Purse, 801 Bamboo Road, Boone, NC 28607.
