DURHAM Margaret Hockaday passed away peacefully and surrounded by family and friends at the Duke Hospice Hock Plaza on Sunday, December 22, 2013 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Earl Hockaday and her son Lynwood Hockaday. Margaret was a life-long resident of Durham and a loyal employee of Davis Baking Company for 47 years. Until fairly recently, she loved playing Bingo at Town and Country Sportsman Club, where she was once the President of their Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her devoted son Lester and his wife Linda; her loving daughter Rachel Ellis and husband Brent; 5 grandchildren – Pat, Kevin and Missy Weaver and their spouses Angela and Tracy, and James and Scott Hockaday and their spouses Nicole and Christine; 9 great-grandchildren – Bobby, Tommy Lee, Hunter, Nick, Brooke, Bucky, Cole, Sam and Hannah; as well as 3 sisters – Jewel DeHart, Catherine Peery and Grace Chandler and husband Bob.
A graveside memorial will be held at the Glenn Cemetery on Joyner Rd on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The family will be at Margaret’s home on Summerlin Road in Durham.
