DURHAM Mrs. Margaret Ozie Watson, 96, of Durham, died on Thursday, June 22, 2017.
Mrs. Watson was born in Wake County on September 1, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Fred Sears and Bertha Searls Sears. She retired from the Durham Public Schools where she worked in the Southern High School Cafeteria for 18 years. She was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church and taught the Senior Adult Women’s Class. She and Clifton always had a beautiful garden and she was the best cook; always doing for others and delivering food. She made the best Brunswick stew and the grandchildren loved her biscuits. She loved to tell others about Jesus. She was a great wife, mother and grandmother and was a super person and deeply loved by her family, friends and church members and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Durwood, Barry, O’Neil, and Clair Sears; sisters, Rachel Yates and Pansy Herndon.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Clifton W. Watson; son Timothy C. Watson; daughters, Judy Dempsey and husband, Tommy and Beverly George and husband, Don; brothers, Daniel Sears and John Sears and wife, Maggie Bell; grandchildren, Kim Duff and husband, John, Melanie Miller and husband, Neal, Sam Dempsey and wife, Laura, Kelly Herman and husband, David, Brad George and wife, Kelli and Liz Morrow and husband, Tommy; great-grandchildren, Lindsey McRae and husband, Mitch, Haley Daber, Lexie Miller, Logan and Maggie Dempsey, Nash and Judson Herman, Skylar and Brantley George, Lyla and Caroline Morrow.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Robby Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Sam Dempsey, Brad George, John Duff, Neal Miller, David Herman and Mitch McRae. Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Morrow.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
