In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCarthy was preceded in death by siblings Robert, Albert, and Billy Fox, Elizabeth Evans, Dorothy Freeman, and Kathleen Coates; son, Michael Medlin (from her first marriage); and husband Henry McCarthy.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Joan Medlin Keith-Glover and husband, Earl, of Knotts Island, NC; several wonderful nieces and nephews (nephew Phil Alderson was like a son); and best friend, Jeanne Weaver.
Mrs. McCarthy retired from The American Tobacco Company in 1985 after 42 years of loyal service. She was a machine operator.
A member of Bethesda Baptist Church, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 14. In the last few years, she and her daughter attended Fellowship Baptist. Mrs. McCarthy loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She was devoted to her two children and her parents.
A debt of gratitude and love are expressed for precious friend Cheryl Childress of Knotts Island, NC, for her help and love. Also, thank you to the entire staff of Magnolia Manor for their care and love for the past two months.
“If I don’t see you again here on earth, I’ll see you in heaven” was her favorite expression of love in parting company with her loved ones and even those she just met.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, a private service will be held at a later date.
