DURHAM Heaven gained a new Angel Monday, February 16, 2015 when Mrs. Mary Alice Wood Pollard, 78, was called to be with her Lord. “But those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 Our Angel is now celebrating with her Savior in heaven.
Mrs. Pollard was born in Holly Springs, the daughter of the late Daniel and Alice Mann Wood. She retired from the Herald-Sun Credit Union. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was an avid Duke Basketball fan.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harold S. Pollard; three daughters, Amie Pollard Walker, Katherine Joyce Burke and Alicia Kay Burcham all of Durham; three brothers, Jimmy Wood of New Hill, NC, Ricky Wood of Kentucky and Dick Wood of Louisiana; two sisters, Faye Wood of New Hill, NC, Dianne Holland of Durham; three grandchildren, Katelynn Walker, Kelsey Walker and Krystall Butts; 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Allison and Rev. Jimmy Hall will officiate. Burial will be in South Granville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tommy Smith, Andy White, David Thomasson, Robert Gilliam, Steve Burcham and Don Hursey.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 420 Princess Anne Dr. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhom.com.
