Mary Ellen Mizell Allen

DURHAM Mary Ellen Mizell Allen, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hock Family Pavilion. She was a Durham native and the daughter of the late Jessie Powell Mizell and Beulah Louise Conway. Mrs. Allen worked in the Durham City School system in the cafeteria and was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church. She loved cooking and spending time at the beach and the mountains.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Billy Ray Allen; 2 sons, Tommy Ray Allen of Durham and Craig Irving Allen of Burlington; 1 daughter, Donna Hester of Durham; 2 brothers, Eddie Mizell and Bobby Mizell; and 1 sister, Barbara Howard. She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren; Jeanelle Russell, Travis Eugene Hester, and Kendra Lynn Hester as well as 2 great-grandchildren; Brianna Russell and Ryan Russell.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pastor Donnie Cash will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 7 to 8 pm at Hudson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Billy Ray Allen, 310 12th St., Butner, NC 27509.
