Mary Champion Tolley

DURHAM- Mrs. Mary Champion Tolley age 89, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother, of Durham, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday February 12, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elijah J. and Alpha Jane Chapel Champion; her beloved husband Edward Morris Tolley, daughter Deborah Tolley Wiggins (Joe), and grandson Scotty Morris Edwards, three sisters LouAnne Marie Yarboro, Alice Faye Kanas, Virginia Katherine Lunsford; five brothers Billy Champion, Jasper Norman Champion, Justice Thomas Champion, Henry C Champion and Robert Earl Champion.

She is survived by a daughter Marsha Tolley; two granddaughters Gayle Edwards Passmore (Frank) and Brandy Wiggins Queen (Darrell); five great grandchildren Jessica Cheek Price (Jeremy), Grayson Lee Paynter, Jayden Scott Paynter, Mackenzie Jade Queen, Tyler Edward James Queen; 2 bonus great grandchildren Michael Passmore, Juliette Passmore; and two great great grandchildren Easton Wayne Price and Emmy Louise Price and one brother James Champion of El Paso, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was an active member of Grove Park Chapel for many years. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed her Tuesday morning gatherings with the over 55 group at the Durham County Library East Regional Branch. She enjoyed reading and her word search puzzles.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Brooks.

Hudson Funeral Home will be observing social distancing for visitation as well as the graveside service, and asks everyone in attendance to wear a mask when entering the building and at the graveside.
